Diarra D. Blue

DVM

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Blue gained a passion for animals during his early adolescence by becoming the neighborhood veterinarian for household pets. He later attended Tuskegee University where he earned a Bachelor of Animal Science and a Doctor of Veterinary medicine.

While working toward his DVM, Dr. Blue’s professional experience includes Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Tuskegee University Comparative Animal Medicine Laboratory, E.V. Smith Dairy Farm and student representative for Fort Dodge Animal Health. As a practicing veterinarian, Dr. Blue began working in Las Vegas, Nevada for two leading veterinarian hospitals, Ann Road and Grand Montecito Animal Hospital as well as the Lied Animal Shelter. In 2015, Dr. Blue along with partners Dr. Michael Lavigne and Dr. Aubrey Ross, Jr. opened the doors to Cy-Fair Animal Hospital, a full service medical and boarding facility in Houston, Texas that specializes in today’s leading veterinarian techniques, and now has expanded to a second location.

The journey of planning and building their hospital ultimately gave way for the hit Animal Planet reality series “The Vet Life”. The series captures Dr. Blue and his partners’ lives as they juggle running a business while managing their family life filled with spouses, parents, in-laws, children, pets and friends, as well as their intense moments saving the lives of animals at their clinic.

In his continued love for giving back to the profession, Dr. Blue can be found speaking at various universities and veterinary organizations, participating as chair of the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital, or expanding the newly developed Diarra Blue Education Initiative (DBEI), a 501c3 nonprofit helping guide young people interested in becoming doctors of veterinary medicine journey through the social, educational, and professional rigors of earning their ultimate goal of success through scholarships, mentoring, and training. When away from the “animal kingdom”, Dr. Blue enjoys cooking, a gut-wrenching laugh with family and friends, and hugging on his wife Dr. Jessica Blue, sons Dean and Dylan, and baby girl Nia.

Michael Lavigne III

DVM

Although born in California, Dr. Lavigne was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a child, he and his family had a variety of pets- from dogs, to reptiles to horses. This early exposure to animals created in Dr. Lavigne a love of animals that has not only endured a lifetime, but has also led him to a very rewarding career in veterinary medicine.

He attended Xavier University in New Orleans, where he and his wife Anne met as students, completing his undergraduate studies in Biology. It was during this time that he made the choice to minor in Pre-Veterinary studies and pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, Dr. Lavigne attended Tuskegee University in Alabama where earned his DVM in 2007.

Dr. Lavigne began his career practicing as an associate veterinarian at an animal hospital in Las Vegas. Here he enjoyed providing quality medical service to his patients and connected with his clients because of his comprehensive and compassionate care. After several years of practice, Dr. Lavigne made the decision along with his two partners, Dr. Blue and Dr. Ross, to open a veterinary facility and relocate their families to Houston. The decision to open Cy-Fair Animal Hospital has only added to Dr. Lavigne’s love for the practice of veterinary medicine by allowing him and his partners to share a practice and share the love of their profession, all while providing their clients with outstanding veterinary medical care.

Dr. Lavigne enjoys all aspects of general practice, however, as it relates to special interests within the field, he finds soft tissue surgery and emergency medicine to be some of the most interesting and rewarding work.

Away from work Dr. Lavigne enjoys the company of his wife Anne and his two children. Together they enjoy activities like fishing, golfing, hiking, camping or entertaining family and friends. He and his family share their lives with a Schnauzer mix dog named Woody, French Bulldog named Yama and a new addition to the family– a cat named Sugi.

Sugi came into Cy-Fair Animal Hospital as an emergency surgery rescue patient after she was injured by a car motor as a kitten. After performing an emergency surgery on her, having to amputate both of the front legs, Dr. Lavigne and his wife decided to adopt Sugi and give her a loving home. Sugi is short for “Kintsugi,” a style of Japanese art where the cracks of a broken piece of pottery are mended with gold making it even more beautiful.

Bianca Kirkland

DVM

Born and raised in Houston, TX, Dr. Kirkland knew from a very young age that she wanted to become a veterinarian. She had a host of animals growing up including fish, hamsters, snakes, dogs and cats. She also often rode horses with family friends and classmates growing up. All of her experiences ignited her passion more and more to become a veterinarian.

While earning a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences with a minor in Dance Science from Texas A&M University, Dr. Kirkland worked all four years as a veterinary technician. It was during this time though that she realized how much she truly loved dance and decided to explore the world of professional dance prior to attending veterinary school. After working and saving money for a few years, Dr. Kirkland moved to New York City to become a professional modern dancer. She continued dutifully working long days as a technician at an animal hospital alongside going to rehearsals, auditions and performing for a little over a year in NYC. One cold, snowy day in NYC after long talks in the surgery suite with the doctors she worked alongside, Dr. Kirkland’s original love and passion for animals was reignited. Although she loved dancing, she knew it was time to fulfill her lifelong goal of becoming a veterinarian. She applied to and attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean.

Veterinary school was no easy feat, but Dr. Kirkland made sure to enjoy every second of her adventure! During her education, she got to spend 2 weeks in the South African bush with wildlife/game veterinarians and 4 weeks at the Houston Zoo, and she even got to teach modern dance to teenage girls while on the island. It was towards the end of her veterinary school career, that Dr. Kirkland discovered CyFair Animal Hospital and immediately reached out with interest of an externship. After multiple emails, phone calls and messages, Dr. Kirkland “to be” at the time, was finally granted a 2-week externship with the doctors at CyFair Animal Hospital. She was immediately enamored by the skillset, educational values, encouragement, and opportunities provided at CFAH. She was sold! Prior to graduation in May of 2019, Dr. Kirkland was offered an associate veterinarian position at CyFair Animal Hospital and it has been history ever since! When not enjoying her dream job, Dr. Kirkland enjoys coming home to her small zoo, which consist of 2 lab mixes: “Billie Jean” (“BJ”) and “Dirty Diana” (“DD”), French Bulldog: “Grahm”, 2 cats: Bacon and Biscotti and “Benny” the ball python.

Johneisha Motley

DVM

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Johneisha Motley developed her dreams to become a veterinarian after losing her dad in 2003. As daddy’s little girl, Dr. Motley would say her passion stemmed from the depression she experienced after his untimely death and the joy she received after owning her first pet. Through the emotional support of pets, Dr. Motley discovered her calling to become a hero to those that once helped save her.

In 2012, Dr. Motley graduated Valedictorian of South Oak Cliff high school. Four years later, she graduated from Texas A&M University with a major in Biomedical science and a double minor in Education and Communication. During her educational career, Dr. Motley gained animal experience by working as a kennel tech for 2+ years and shelter veterinary technician for 2+ years. In 2021, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tuskegee University, College of Veterinary Medicine.

Outside of work, Dr. Motley enjoys brunch, shopping, make-up, fashion, and spending time with family, friends, and her fur-ever best friend, Oliver. She is grateful to be a member of the Cy-Fair animal hospital team and is eager to save animal lives, one family at a time!
